Heh, heh! Being a photographer who probably takes as many b&w shots as color, I'd have to agree. It seems to work especially well in portraits, although a friend of mine did two alternatives of the same ad for her photography business, and the color actually worked better.

i agree, color can be distracting. b&w is itself emotional content.
i prefer b&w for close-up work, especially people; color works best with still-life and landscape-work.
